Age: Over 18!
Other Characters: N/A
Name: Vox
Canon: Hazbin Hotel
Canon Point: Post-"The Show Must Go On", S1E8.
Age: Estimated to be around a century old: He died in the 1950's and spends his afterlife as an immortal sinner since. Physically he seems to be in his late thirties to early 40s.
Backstory: His Wiki Entry.
Personality:
Two words exemplify Vox at his core: Pride and Attention. In life, Vincent Whittman was just a weather man and he felt that he was owed far, far greater things, that he was better than where he was. As he climbed the ladder with the network he worked for, garnering more and more eyes upon him, gaining adoring fans who would call his name and eventually call him 'The God of Entertainment', his pride soared. The blood that stained his footsteps- the people he killed with little thought as he took their positions and ascended- didn't matter. People in his path to something he wants are treated only as obstacles. The ends always justify the means when it comes to him. This continued far after his death and subsequent (and deserved) damnation in Hell, where he became the Media Overlord, the man behind all things entertainment. With his brand name on everything, every piece of tech in a demon's hands existing solely because of him, not even a painful death and being sent to Hell seems to have dampened his spirit and his ultimate goal of being seen as some level of god.
He thrives from praise, all but glows when his name is on another's lips, and if that level of fame and attention isn't quite up to snuff? He seizes control of the situation by means of coercion as an accomplished smooth-talker, a silver tongue, or literal brainwashing through his hypnotic eye. Never does Vox show any form of remorse or hesitation in making his eternal climb. With a calm, cool and nearly impenetrable outer shell, the Media Demon seemed unstoppable...
...That is, until he fell in love. He took a chance, lowered those walls, and opened his heart to take this one person he trusted- the exception to everything- in. He was, in turn, humiliated. It was his first truly perceived failure, and it hurt him so deeply, so personally that he proceeded to carry a grudge against this person for almost a hundred years.
This humiliation, in turn, left an irreparable crack in him. Even though he practically owns Hell through the media, can spin the news to anything he wants and can even hypnotize the people into practically worshiping him, this person- Alastor, the Radio Demon- continues to be a sore spot for him to the point of obsession. Alastor was his first real loss of control, his first real loss of power, and this obsession leads him to countless paths of failure and ruin as the seemingly unflappable red demon always seems to be one step ahead of him. To this day, Vox battles not only to prove that Alastor is wrong about his assessment of him that day, but stubbornly tries to prove that he is BETTER than him. And why not? People don't listen to radio much anymore; it's all about tv! Internet! Film! His interactions with the other man opens a window to Vox's insecurities: Vox loathes being considered a failure, weak and pathetic, something that loans to him brooding in private when Lucifer- King of Hell- taunts him by calling him one by virtue of being in Hell. He also wants to maintain a professional and not-at-all-messy reputation for his company, enough to berate his fellow company heads Velvette and Valentino for bad behaviors he exhibits himself. When his approval ratings dip severely later in the story, Vox looks panicked, almost sick. Even defeated, at his lowest point, he still wonders aloud how his ratings are, much to the chagrin of his colleagues.
When he isn't in a panic over control slipping from his grasp, Vox will lose his temper, and has on many occasions flown into a rage, doing everything in his power to 'make things right' again. The man-turned-demon will lie, cheat, steal and kill to get things back on his own perceived 'right track', and once it is? You can continue to trust him and only him with everything that you will ever need.
He isn't without his more human joys, however: He enjoys a good bit of bourbon, is stated by an employee at his company that he is a cinephile- naturally- but the man loves, loves, LOVES sharks. He keeps them in his personal collection, including a beloved demon shark hybrid called SHOK.WAV, who he babies relentlessly. His love of sharks carries over from his life as a human, and it's heavily implied he is the reason Shark Week exists on television. Thank him for it.
Powers/Abilities:
-Technopathy: He can connect himself using his cables to machines with the capability to be plugged into, allowing him to manipulate their functions as a living controller.
-Electrokinesis: Vox can channel electricity through his body to shock and stun his targets or power machines, and can even become lightning to quickly get around or avoid attacks.
-Hypnotic Eye: Channeling his demonic power through his left eye, Vox can hypnotize or otherwise brainwash any who make eye contact with him. [Important Note: Obviously, this is done with permission from all players involved.]
Inventory: Histacky AMAZING suit. That's it. He doesn't really carry much on him.
Game Plans: This is taking Vox outside of his tower, away from his villainous found family, and basically going to ground level again. We're looking relatively low tech, so he needs to be more resourceful while proving he can still do what he does best with his own power. Transforming will be an interesting exploration of his id- the base instinct of what makes us living, breathing creatures with thoughts and desires- since the last time he'd opened up completely he was deeply humiliated and hurt for it. But what if he wasn't...? What if he could just cut loose? That's something I'd like to explore and get him to chill out and be more of a tech nerd.
Monster Choice:
1. Yokai- Kitsune: The cunning, the smooth-talking and the tricks, as well as 'chewing on a few livers' while dodging capture through his life rising up the entertainment ladder fit a considerable bill for Vox. Species-wise, it would be a departure from the typical aesthetic he goes for, which would be interesting to explore. He'd make for a real stinker of a kitsune. (And I know the Alastor is putting that on their list and it'd be HILARIOUS to have them both get the same thing for the ultimate dickwaving contest. As is their dynamic.)
2. Merfolk- Merrow: Vox has an immense love for aquatic life, particularly sharks. He also slings lightning like nobody's business, and is an accomplished singer from a canon that is all musical. He'd make a terrifying merrow.
3. Drakonis- Dragon: Vox is more than a little full of himself, happy to preen, happy to give off an air of professionalism and 'head-honchoism'. He collected followers for his cult- and in his afterlife, support and adoration for his corporation- like he collects pretty trinkets, and adds them to his ever-growing hoard of wealth and power.
Vehicle Choice: A 1950's model of Chevy Corvette in blue, because he's a typical bitch like that. It screams 'a car he'd love to have and baby the shit out of, but could never afford in life.'
